Mental Health Awareness and Training Program
In September 2021, Chelsea Hospital received a Mental Health Awareness and Training grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. This federally funded grant supports mental health training for more than 2,500 members of our community.

MHAT Training Options
QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer)
QPR is a suicide prevention training that teaches participants 14+ how to
recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to question, persuade, and refer someone to help.
1-hour of instructor led training. Available online and in-person.

Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA)
YMHFA teaches participants 18+ how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders in youth. The training provides skills needed to reach out and provide initial help and support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem or experiencing a crisis.
2-hour self-paced course & 5-hours of instructor led training

Teen Mental Health First Aid (tMHFA)
tMHFA teaches teens in grades 9-12 (aged 14-18) how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges among their friends and peers. The course covers how to open the conversation and common signs and symptoms of mental health and substance use challenges, the impact of social media on mental wellbeing, and how to seek the help of a responsible and trusted adult.
4.5-hours of instructor led training

NAMI Training
Basics On-Demand
For parents, caregivers, and other loved ones who care for youth experiencing mental health symptoms. This FREE, online, self-paced program will provide you with support while teaching you how to identify types of mental health professionals and treatment options, how to navigate resource access, how to advocate for your child’s rights, and how to prepare for and respond in a crisis, how mental health can impact the entire family, and the importance of caring for yourself, too.
